Huskies Basketball

Huskies Basketball

It's been a couple years since NEDSRA sent a basketball team downstate to compete in the Special Olympics State Basketball Tournament at Illinois State University, but we sure are back! This year, we sent not one, not two but three teams! We sent our Junior Huskies Team, and two of our adult teams, Huskies Blue and Huskies Silver. Our Huskies Silver team probably had the most exciting road to gold, as a put back by Brendan with only 1 second left gave his team the one point victory and punched their ticket downstate.

Appetizers and refreshments were also available throughout the night to keep the participant’s energy level high. The highlights of the evening were the live DJ, photo booth and the crowning of the NEDSRA Homecoming King and Queen. Overall the event was a huge success!

South Carolina Trip

South Carolina Trip

Our NEDSRA travelers were welcomed and treated with the most unbelievable amount of South Carolina hospitality! Nine NEDSRA participants traveled with our three staff and enjoyed so many things that Charleston had to offer. Not only did we enjoy touring the USS Yorktown & the Destroyer at Patriots Point but we also toured the Plantations at Boone’s Hall Plantation & Middleton Place where several movies have been filmed. We toured the Plantation homes and Slavery Street and enjoyed a traditional plantation meal. We swam in the Atlantic on Folly Beach. We enjoyed our Food Network food tour. All of the restaurants we traveled to were all either on Man vs Food or Diners, Drive In & Dives on the Food. The food was unbelievable and so unique for our participants to try and enjoy. We met so many new friends and truly enjoyed meeting everyone while on our travels to Charleston.

Huskies Volleyball Teams

Huskies Volleyball Teams

We had over twenty athletes comprise 3 teams for this year's Huskies Volleyball season. All season long, we worked on serving, bumping, setting and sometimes, even spiking! Our athletes showed improvements as the season progressed. Our White, Blue & Silver teams finished their Special Olympics Tournament in 4th, 3rd and 2nd, respectively and improved the following week to finish their ITRS tournaments 2nd, 2nd and 1st! We really laid the groundwork for next year and hope to build upon our late season success!

MARDI GRAS MASQUERADE BALL

NEDSRA hosted a masquerade ball in September.  Several other SRA’s joined us that evening for dinner, dancing and the crowning of the new SRA King and Queen. This event was even more special due to the help of the Kiwanis Club of Lombard assisting NEDSRA with a financial donation, as well as providing volunteers for the evening. With the help of Key Club volunteers from Glenbard East High School, all SRA participants were able to enjoy this exciting event that continues to make new memories each year.  If you would like to know how to get involved in these exciting events, please contact Beth Corso, NEDSRA’s Special Events Coordinator, at (630)576-4030.

NEDSRA offered 5 different camps this summer. Each camp had a variety of field trips, games, crafts, and a lot of memories were made in 8 short weeks.  NEDSRA’s All Camp event was the last big event of the summer.  All campers and staff joined together for a fun filled morning of bounce houses, face painting, carnival games and a hot dog lunch.  Before heading to the Bensenville Pool, everyone enjoyed a nice cold ice cream treat! It’s never too early to start thinking about the summer.  Colleen Cline, NEDSRA’s Youth and Day Camp Coordinator, would love to discuss with you many of the reasons why camp is so beneficial to our participants.  Colleen can be reached at (630)576-4038.
